If you paid attention to my previous post, you would have noticed me saying (or writing) that there are actually 74 pictures and I only uploaded 7 of them.

Actually, folks at T-araChina have a tradition of zipping large number of pictures and sharing the zip files. I shall help spread the love by sharing the zip files here, giving credits where they are due (and hopefully the original uploaders don't mind)

What Does It Mean?

Though I've been listening to T-ara's song for a while now, I realized that I don't really know what the lyrics say. And as such, I've decided to slowly (but surely) find the English translation and get a better understanding of their songs.

So here's the first song I decided to look up:

I decided to check this song out because I really don't get all the "ma boy", "ma boo" and the other "ma" in Kpop.

Now that I've read the translation, I realized that this song is easily one of T-ara's saddest song (granted that I don't know the meaning to many of their songs).

Also, according to a more musically-inclined friend of mine, this song uses the same chord progression as TTL; this means that you should be able to sing TTL to the track of Ma Boo.

So this is what happened...

I had a mini-renovation and the guys disconnected one of the phones, only to reconnect it to the wrong port of the ADSL filter, thus lagging my internet connection.

How Korean Age Works

Quite a number of people has asked me how Koreans calculate their ages, so here's simple explanation/ guide.
I hope I'm right.

here's an exception - she's alway 18

Basically, Koreans calculate their ages the same way Chinese used to do it - you're born as a 1-year-old, and for every new lunar year, you gain +1 bonus to your age.

So a quick way to find out how old your favorite idol (which I hope is T-ara) is to just add 1 to the idol's age after the idol's birthday of the year is over.

Sorry in advance for the recent onslaught of SoYeon-related post; after all, she is my bias and I have been doing some intense subbing of the radio show.

In short, the radio show is one of the hardest shows I've attempted - it has all members of T-ara talking together, puns in Korean, sub-standard Chinese subtitles, and worst of all, there's no video to look at while subbing! (but the content makes the subbing worthwhile)

Anyway, here's SoYeon's impromptu harmonizing to YoSeob's singing of GOD's "Lies".


While I'm not a singer, I do sing once in a while, and harmonizing is something I have been trying to do (without any success).

Other Recommendations

While I'm definitely a QUEEN'S, I do enjoy songs by other artists too.

In the comments section of almost every snsd YouTube video, you can see a huge fan war being waged. I once saw a commenter, even after claiming that he or she is a sone, being attacked after saying that the performance is "not perfect". I suppose that's one disadvantage of being too popular - you attract really really crazy fans, and it just takes a single one to ruin the image of the whole.

I'm proud to say that us queen's seldom concern ourselves with such wars; we're a peace loving bunch! However, in the event that we are involved in fan wars, it certainly helps for us to know songs beyond T-ara's. (so we can give a balanced argument)

And here's one that I really really like; and it's still T-ara related (if you're a queen's you should know)

Wasted Effort...

Spent my day trying to make a HowTo infographic on joining T-ara's Daum Fan Cafe.

Different Voices of SoYeon

Almost all groups have a member designated as the Main Vocal; but while the main vocals in other idol groups are usually in charge of the sustained high notes towards the climax of the song, SoYeon almost never does that.

SoYeon's real forte when it comes to singing is her phenomenal vocal control.
Let's start with the first example:


"SoYeon is more about blending in then standing out; rather then purely standing out" -- TimeToT-ara

She's only 14!

T-ara's 9th member is a 14-year-old girl; and if you missed the 8th member, she's 19. And that will bring T-ara's average age down from 22.9 years old to a new young of...

21.5 years (hope my high school math didn't fail me). And honestly, that's no reason for adding new members.

When HwaYoung joined T-ara, many fans were doubtful; and I'm sure she put in a lot of effort to catch up to the rest of the members. She had to learn the dance and singing parts to all previous songs, get use to variety shows and the most difficult of all - also make friends with a group of already extremely bonded friends.

Now, imagine all these, but more: T-ara is even more popular now, and they are already into Japanese market, capable of speaking basic Japanese. And the new member is only 14.

That brings me to the topic of how T-ara has one of the widest spread of age among members. From the least young group of BoRam and Qri, to the middle group of EunJung and HyoMin and finally to the youngest of HwaYoung and JiYeon (SoYeon is sort of like the bridge between the first 2 groups).

In this 7-ara configuration, the age gap between BoRam and JiYeon (widest gap) is already 7 years and 1 month. Seems like their CEO kks is intending to introduce the fourth generation into T-ara by adding the 14-year-old (BoRam is almost twice her age).

Release Your Kpop Spasms!

Here goes the self-promotion...

I have been into Kpop for quite some time now; and just like every other fan, I watch Dramas and Variety Shows, listen to Albums and Live Performances, and while doing these, I very frequently chance upon stuff that I believe the whole world - or perhaps all those into Kpop - should know.

And share I did. While there are social media like Facebook and Twitter, I don't always want to fill all my friends' feeds with my endless Kpop Spasms. So when I see something share-worthy - from latest news to interesting pictures to rare videos - I post them here.

However, what I post here is really just the tip of my Kpop iceberg, there are just so many other things that I want to share but later consider them too trivial for a blog post. So, with 2 of my fellow fans and friends, I created a portal just for sharing this bits of Kpop Spasms:

No prize for guessing where we got the idea from.

    So here's how the portal work:
Firstly, like mentioned above, when you feel the urge to share something but doesn't want to bother your non-Kpop friends on normal channels, visit KpopTard, click on the "post" button and post away. You can share all the images and YouTube videos knowing fully well that no one will complaining about your spamming. (right now, that's no need for you to get an account to make a post)

Secondly, it's for when you have the Kpop cravings but doesn't know where to go. allkpop may have too many irrelevant stuff while fans on major fans sites may post every little thing about the idols, thinking that all the news are interesting (even if they are not). So when you're just done with a drama or back from a concert, feeling that life has no other meaning, visit KpopTard and see all the BEST rated content.

That's right, there's a rating system: you "like" the posts that you like, and posts with most likes become popular so others can see what you like. That said, this require for KpopTard to have a sizable community first and as of now, KpopTard is just born - or baked, if I may - so please be patient with it,

Finally, after going through each and every other member of T-ara, it's Bo Ram's turn!

Why have you deserted Korea?

Although there's not much big event for T-ara in Korea recently...

T-ara's first Japanese full album - Jewelry Box - is going to be released this coming June, and together with the release, there are many wonderful pictures, and here are three of them:

To be honest, I don't really like T-ara's Japanese style - I just can't shake off the feeling that they are trying to sell sex, by wearing really short and/or tight performance outfits. That said, I do like T-ara wearing tiaras (just like in T-araDotCom).

Also, due to the language barrier, T-ara's appearances on Japanese broadcasts tend to be repetitive and thus boring; most of the time, it'll be some talking, some T-ara demonstrating dance moves/ doing simple challenges and finally performance of 2 songs on average.

Most unfortunately, in yesterday's post, I totally forgot about Dream High, in which EunJung played Yoon BaekHee - a loyal friend who was turned to the Dark Side.

Subbing <Radio Star> is proving to be quite big of a challenge as the Chinese subbed source I have is less than ideal: the captions are subbed inline with normal conversation with any differentiation and I only realized that halfway through.

So, some So Yeon to clear the stress first.

HyoMin is still the mood-maker, but the mood she creates is usually an awkward one (with her "great" sense of humor)
not forgetting HwaYoung, who appears more maknae than the actual maknae (JiYeon) and the bogus maknae (BoRam)

Now that I'm done with Pretty Boys, I supposed I can fulfill some of the previous requests. But before that, I shall be taking a break. And for no particular reason, today is Ji Yeon day! (Hwa Young day was some time last week)

Hard Subs... and more words

Hard subs are up. Click through to enjoy the final episode of Pretty Boys for T-ara with hard coded subtitles.

But if you don't mind reading words by me that aren't subtitles, do read on for what I have to say.

- Don't ever think that translator plays the most important role in a sub group (I did). Other roles are tough as well.

- Timers have to listen for when the person starts speaking, and if you watched the cooking episodes, you'll realized how difficult that can be with all 7 members of T-ara speaking at the same time. (Although it may not be that bad of a thing watching the same parts over and over again to synchronize the timing if you really like T-ara)

- Encoders and uploaders, by virtue of their being in the later stages of production, are expected to be as speedy as can be. While many may think that all encoders and uploaders have to do is to click the "encode" or "upload" buttons and wait for their mega powerful computer or breakneck lightning speed broadband to do the work, that is simply not true. Programs tend to crash and internet intermittent, and once any of these happens, a full re-encode or re-upload is needed. Consequently, while encoding and uploading, a periodic check is needed; And until the job is done, no one can feel safe.

Here's a summary of all T-ara's recent news on the addition of members.

14th March - Kim Kwang Soo (KKS) announced that T-ara will undergo huge changes with regards to the member. And the purpose is to allow T-ara to continue growing.

16th March - KKS mentioned that T-ara will become a 8 to 9 member group, through addition and/ or replacement of members. This is help reduce complacency of current members.

5th April - During an phone interview with newen, KKS revealed that the 2 new members will be able to share the singing burden of the current main vocalist - So Yeon, and thus allow T-ara to have a wider genre of songs.

6th April - KKS - via a hand written message - asked the fans to be understanding and to show more love and concern to T-ara. Also, he said that compared to those who are trying to catch up, the ones in front must work even harder to maintain their positions. He hopes for T-ara to not be complacent, and to work not just for a Korea's T-ara, but a Asia's T-ara.

The 2 new members will be joining T-ara's activities in July.

Someone Tell Me Why

Know the song "I'm Really Hurt"? It's in the repackaged album , along with the more popular "I Go Crazy Because of You". Here's the question - why are there 3 different versions for "I'm Really Hurt" when all 3 versions are so similar?

Another lazy quick share:

Things about Bo Ram that I learned from these photos:
1. she wasn't always so thin (I do recall other members saying how Bo Ram lost 20kg, or maybe pounds)
2. she wasn't born with double eyelids 3. [inferred] she must have been really determined and disciplined to lose that much weight

Oh my goodness, I think So Yeon is injured too. I'm not a fan of reporting news, I have to share this; so here's the video of T-ara performing some songs, with So Yeon singing by the side, supported by a crutch.

Ghost Play, No Subs, Only Good Pics n Clips

I have been trying to find the subs for T-ara Ghost Play, unfortunately all I can find are pictures. Anyway, there isn't much talking in the show, and I've picked out some interesting parts that you may want to watch.

Davichi's appearance; it's funny how T-ara is visited by Kang Min Kyung (around 19 years old then), who is younger than all but one T-ara member. (or 2 including Hwa Young)

So here's the news (that you most probably have heard): Core Content Media's CEO Kim Kwang Soo announced that T-ara will undergo a huge change of members, possibly switching out some and adding some, turning T-ara into a 8 or 9-membered group.

When someone mentions Tony Moly, the image that usually comes to my mind (and most likely everyone else's too) is that of EunJung, and recently, HyoMin too, as she was the star of the mist commercial that appeared in the Pretty Boys episodes.

I forgot where I heard this from (most probably a movie), but there's a saying about how you can judge a team by the relationships between the members - if the members are really close, it means that they have been through much together, and thus the group must be well-trained.

Japanese Goodness that you've been missing out on

Ever since their first Japanese showcase last year, T-ara has been appearing on many Japanese variety shows, doing stuff like visiting theme parks, shopping malls and as usual - eating.

And if what I observed from my fellow kpop fans is representative of the general fan population, it would mean that we somehow don't understand Japanese more so than we don't understand Korean, that's why we still watch Korean shows but not Koreans appearing on Japanese shows.
